What's new in iRedMail: it now works on openSUSE-12.2 (Mantis)

$

Dear all,

With last commit, iRedMail now works on openSUSE-12.2-RC1 (code name Mantis), with all backends available: OpenLDAP, MySQL, PostgreSQL.

Tested with openSUSE-12.2-RC1, of course it will work on the final release when it's available.

Still need some time to rebuild RPMs of cluebringer (a.k.a. Policyd v2) for openSUSE i586 platform.

iRedAdmin was improved too. You can now mark mail user as domain admin, no separate admin account is required.

Ubuntu-12.10 alpha3 has a bug which causes php5-imap cannot be installed, so we have to wait for next release.

Stay tuned. smile

Dear all,

iRedMail-0.8.2 bugfix release has been released.

Highlight changes since iRedMail-0.8.1
  • It now works on openSUSE-12.2 with all 3 backends available.

  • Drop support for Ubuntu-11.10 (oneiric).

  • It now works well with FreeBSD Jail (sysutils/ezjail). Tutorial is available here: http://www.iredmail.org/wiki/index.php? … eeBSD.Jail

  • With the latest iRedAdmin, you can now mark mail user as domain admin. It requires 3 new columns in MySQL/PGSQL database (vmail.mailbox): isadmin, isglobaladmin, language. For OpenLDAP, you have to update to the latest LDAP scheme.

  • [PGSQL] Add shell script to backup PostgreSQL databases in cron. Script is /var/vmail/backup/backup_pgsql.sh, backup directory is /var/vmail/backup/pgsql/ by default.

  • [LDAP] Allow to use LDAP attribute shadowAddress for mail list account. Thanks chrisjrob <cjr _at_ tridentgarages.co.uk> for the report.

  • [LDAP] Add checkpoint setting in OpenLDAP for data recovery, used to define the time between BDB checkpoint operations. Default is whenever 128kb data bytes written or 5 minutes has elapsed whichever occurs first.

  • Rotate Dovecot log files on OpenBSD and FreeBSD.

It also fixes some issues:
  • Don't orerride default SpamAssassin score of SPF_PASS, SPF_FAIL. Thanks brandon <brandon _at_ brandonbianchi.com> and imknight <ian _at_ imknight.co.uk> for the feedback.

  • [LDAP] Incorrect maildir path while using Postfix built-in 'virtual' transport.

  • Incorrect log rotate setting of iRedAPD log file on FreeBSD. Thanks openbsdnoob <w-chi _at_ gmx.de> for the report.

Package update:
  • Roundcube webmail -> 0.8.1

  • iRedAdmin (open source edition) -> 0.1.9

  • phpMyAdmin -> 3.5.2.2

  • iRedAPD -> 1.3.8

Draft plan for next iRedMail release: iRedMail-0.9.0
  • Drop support for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, 11.10.

  • Drop support for openSUSE-12.1.

  • Improve iRedAPD: Merge src/iredapd.py and src/iredapd-rr.py, listen on only one port (7777).

New password schemes support in iRedAdmin: SSHA, SSHA512.

$
0
0

Dear all,

New release of iRedAdmin (both open source edition and iRedAdmin-Pro) supports two new password schemes for MySQL and PostgreSQL backends: SSHA, SSHA512. Currently, MD5 is the default password scheme for MySQL/PostgreSQL backends (SSHA for OpenLDAP) in iRedMail. You can set SQL_DEFAULT_PASSWD_SCHEME = 'SSHA512' in iRedAdmin config file (libs/settings.py or libs/settings_local.py (recommended)) so that new users' passwords will be hashed with SSHA512.

Sample passwords:

  • SSHA: {SSHA}bfxqKqOOKODJw/bGqMo54f9Q/iOvQoftOQrqWA==

  • SSHA512: {SSHA512}FxgXDhBVYmTqoboW+ibyyzPv/wGG7y4VJtuHWrx+wfqrs/lIH2Qxn2eA0jygXtBhMvRi7GNFmL++6aAZ0kXpcy1fxag=

Notes:

  • SSHA512 requires Dovecot-2.0 (or later) and Python-2.5 (or later).

  • SSHA512 requires more CPU from your server, which means it will slightly (maybe huge, depends on how many active users you are serving) slow down user authentication (IMAP/POP3/SMTP authentication).

The easiest way to upgrade Dovecot 1.x to 2.0 on RHEL/CentOS 5.

$
0
0

Hi, all.

Just want to show you how easy to upgrade Dovecot-1.x to 2.0 on RHEL/CentOS 5.

Summary

We are going to setup a new virtual machine with RHEL/CentOS 6, so that we have a working config file for Dovecot-2.0. Then simply copy it after we upgraded Dovecot packages.

Note: If you don't want to setup a new virtual machine, we have a sample Dovecot-2.0 config file available for your use: https://bitbucket.org/zhb/iredmail/raw/ … ecot2.conf

Important notes before you start

[+] The latest iRedMail forces clients to use secure connection for POP3 and IMAP services, if you don't want to do this, please check this tutorial: How to allow insecure POP3/IMAP connection

Steps

*) Download Dovecot-2.0 from below URLs:

[+] Dovecot-2.0.x: http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot-2.0.x/
[+] dovecot-managesieve and dovecot-pigeonhole: http://packages.atrpms.net/dist/el5/dovecot-pigeonhole/

*) Backup Dovecot config file first.

[+] WARNING: Please copy files with '-p' option to keep file owner and permission.
[+] Note: We backup /etc/dovecot.conf, but we don't use it for upgrading at all. it's useful if you want to downgrade from Dovecot-2.0 to 1.x.

# mkdir /root/dovecot-backup/
# cp -p /etc/dovecot.conf /root/dovecot-backup/old.dovecot.conf
# cp -p /etc/dovecot-* /root/dovecot-backup/

*) Setup a virtual machine (VMware/Xen/VirtualBox/KVM/etc), install RHEL/CentOS 6 on it. Then deploy iRedMail. iRedMail will install Dovecot-2.0 for you. Its config files are all placed under /etc/dovecot/. Main config file is /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf.

Again, If you don't want to setup a new virtual machine, we have a sample Dovecot-2.0 config file available for your use: https://bitbucket.org/zhb/iredmail/raw/ … ecot2.conf

Note: iRedMail doesn't use config files under /etc/dovecot/conf.d/.

[+] Copy /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf to your iRedMail server which running Dovecot-1.x. assume it's /root/dovecot2.conf.
[+] Now open /root/dovecot2.conf, make sure you have the same values for below parameter as Dovecot-1.x.

# Make sure Dovecot has right owner/permission to store received emails.
mail_uid =
mail_gid =
first_valid_uid =
last_valid_uid =

# Make sure Dovecot will delivers email to correct mailboxes.
mail_location = maildir:/%Lh/Maildir/:INDEX=/%Lh/Maildir/

# Append this domain name if client gives empty realm (no '@domain.com' part in login username).
auth_default_realm =

# Make sure per-user sieve filters can be read/write.
sieve_dir = /%Lh/sieve
sieve = /%Lh/sieve/dovecot.sieve

After you sync above parameters in new config file, it's ready to upgrade Dovecot-1.x.

*) Stop Dovecot service and remove RPM packages.

# /etc/init.d/dovecot
# rpm -e dovecot dovecot-managesieve dovecot-pigeonhole

*) Install Dovecot-2.0 you download. it's mentioned above (step 1).

# rpm -ivh dovecot-2.0.xxx dovecot-pigeonhole-xxx dovecot-managesieve-xxx

*) Copy sample config file to /etc/dovecot/:

# cp /root/dovecot2.conf /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# chown root:root /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf
# chmod 0664 /etc/dovecot/dovecot.conf

*) Restore backup files to /etc/dovecot/. Again, copy files with '-p' option to keep file owner and permission.

# cp -p /root/dovecot-backup/dovecot-* /etc/dovecot/

*) It's now ok to restart Dovecot service and testing:

# /etc/init.d/dovecot restart

Dovecot logs to /var/log/dovecot.log by default, so please send some testing emails and make sure no error occur.

After upgrading

[+] You may want to move /etc/dovecot*.conf (used by Dovecot-1.x) to another place to avoid confusion.

Roundcube plugin allows self-registering new user accounts

$

Dear all,

Just found this forum post[1] and YouTube video[2], it clearly explains how to add a third-party Roundcube plugin, "register"[3] (from http://myroundcube.com/) to allow self-registering new mail user accounts for SQL backends, work well with iRedMail-0.8.3 in production.

[1] Register plugin Driver for iRedmail: http://myroundcube-plugins.40634.n3.nab … 24584.html

[2] iRedmail Server – register plugin installation tutorial (postfix driver): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozhFt5ILWr8

[3] Register plugin: http://myroundcube.com/myroundcube-plug … ter-plugin

Notes:

*) PostfixAdmin is not required.
*) This plugin should work with iRedMail for both MySQL and PostgreSQL backends.
*) There're many more Roundcube plugins available on myroundcube.com, includes a calendar plugin.

Hope it helps. smile

Dear all,

iRedMail-0.8.4 has been released. This is a bug fix release.

New features
  • It now works on openSUSE-12.3 (Dartmouth).

  • Supports the OpenBSD built-in LDAP daemon: ldapd(8). Note: Please do check addition notes about ldapd(8) below if you want to use it in production.

  • Enable Dovecot Master User by default, but no pre-defined account. Refer to Dovecot wiki for more details about Master User: http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Authentication/MasterUsers

  • [SQL] New SQL columns in `vmail.mailbox` for per-user restriction, used by iRedAPD-1.4.0: allowedsenders, rejectedsenders, allowedrecipients, rejectedrecipients.

It also fixes some issues:
  • Misses alias user 'virusalert' in Postfix (/etc/postfix/aliases) for Amavisd. Thanks Frankstar <frankstar.at _at_ gmail.com> for the report.

  • [ldap] Cannot mail to external members of mailing list if we use alias domain as recipient (user@[alias_domain). Thanks Soundar Rajan <soundarajan _at_ take10.in> for the report.

  • [ldap] Cannot handle alias domain in Postfix per-user bcc. Thanks Ward De Backer <wdb _at_ stabe.be> for the report.

  • [ldap] Not enable OpenLDAP TLS/SSL support on OpenBSD by default.

Package update:
Addition notes about the OpenBSD built-in LDAP server: ldapd(8)
  • Currently, ldapd(8) doesn't support replication like OpenLDAP replication, that means you cannot setup master-slave LDAP server cluster with ldapd(8).

Please reply below to share your feature requests, feedback. smile
